We at Salaam Suites did not know that Kota Bharu features street art; and it is truly very beautiful! It radiates a unique Middle Eastern vibe (desert, picking dates, camels, etc.) that I had never seen before. A large part of the murals depicts the plight of the Palestinian people! For example, camels and war zones that have nothing to do with Kota Bharu. It would have been nice if the cultural aspects of the Kelantanese people were highlighted more than Palestine. I came home knowing more about Palestine than Kelantan!
While the first section is a mural about Palestine, the second section is free-concept mural art created by university students.
In between these two sections is a mural depicting Tok Guru Nik Aziz and his writings about Palestine vs the Jews.
With multiple lanes turned into playgrounds for street artists, this country town has become a paradise for urban photographers and those who deeply appreciate street art.
There is also a corner where you can get a 3D look of a tank. The clever corner painting smoothly creates the illusion of a tank. This is high-level art!
Basically, there is street art all over Kota Bharu; it is just a matter of exploring the town on foot. Have fun exploring on the weekend (Friday), as most shops are closed and traffic is lighter.
